American Vitiligo Research Foundation

A little about the AVRF, the oldest vitiligo charity. “I would like to share that the American Vitiligo Research Foundation (AVRF) ‘Embraces Diversity!’ We are a 501©(3) federally tax exempt charity based in Clearwater, FL. We were founded in 1995 and we are a ‘Humane Charity’ that does not support any research with the use of animals. says Stella Pavlides the AVRF founder.

Vitiligo is a skin disorder that removes color from a person’ skin, leaving it with white patches. You are not born with vitiligo, it is an acquired disorder. Vitiligo is not contagious and it does not discriminate. It affects all ethnicities. The AVRF focuses on children affected with vitiligo, since they endure bullying and rejection from their peers. Even though vitiligo does not kill the body, it does have a tremendous impact on an individual’s spirit. Unfortunately, society does not understand how devastating this skin disorder is on those living with it.

I am reaching out to everyone who reads this to please take a moment and picture yourself or a loved one having vitiligo. The daily mental pressure by an uneducated society that focuses on flawless skin is very difficult to live with.

This year some of the AVRF children will be attending our yearly children’s retreat in Canby, Oregon. Our children will be doing a walk on Sunday to raise awareness and funding for much needed vitiligo research. ALL money raised from the walk will go to support vitiligo research. Any amount you can donate is appreciated. Since we are a charity all donations can be used as a tax write off.

On behalf of all children, and adults affected by vitiligo worldwide, I want to personally thank each and every one of you.” Stella, AVRF founder.
